Google Ads is too complicated — and that's by design
If you've opened Google Ads, felt lost, and closed it again, you're not doing anything wrong. The interface has hundreds of settings, and the defaults are set to spend your money quickly, not carefully.
The defaults that cost you money
Three settings account for most of the damage in a brand-new account:
- Display Network opt-in on a Search campaign — cheap clicks, almost no intent.
- Broad match with no negative list — the fastest way to spend a budget on irrelevant queries.
- "Presence or interest" location targeting — shows your ads to people merely interested in your area, not in it.
The settings that actually matter
Conversion tracking, first. Without it every other decision is guesswork and Smart Bidding has nothing to optimise toward. Then location and radius. Then a shared negative list. Then ad copy that repeats the searcher's words. Everything else is refinement.
You shouldn't need to learn all this
Knowing the difference between phrase and broad match isn't your job — running your business is. The complexity is real, but it's the same complexity in every account, which means it can be handled by a system that checks the same things every day and only bothers you when there's a genuine decision to make.
That's the entire idea behind Zevrion: we did the hard work of learning Google Ads so you don't have to.
